Vintage & Retro Vavavoom

At Lace Embrace we love vintage and retro clothing as much as we adore corsets. First, it’s the opposite of fast fashion, a consumption trend that (thankfully!) is on the way out. Instead, we support “circular fashion—extending the life cycle of well-made garments. Even Hollywood A-listers are embracing older, classic dresses, with stars like Margot Robbie wearing a vintage strapless navy Chanel dress with a jewel pendant and cuff sleeves at the 2020 Oscars. Gorgeous, classy, and eco-friendly!

Fantastic Seasonal Finds

Lace Embrace’s vintage clothing is showcased in a part of our atelier called Scout Boutique. We are always gathering beautiful new finds and offer the most unique pieces from a bygone era, with the emphasis on sexy, subtle and refined.

The clothes we sell are often from decades ago, when clothes were made to last, using high-quality materials, unique embellishments and precisely tailored.

Mixing and Matching Modern With Vintage

Today’s stylish woman pairs modern and vintage pieces, creating a distinctive outfit sure to turn heads. We have a selection of clothes as well as accessories like hats, handbags and jewelry made by local and independent designers, creating an outfit specially suited to any event, from casual to glam. In summer, an ordinary outfit can be made more refined by adding a parasol, a hand fan, or a vintage shawl for picnics, regattas or a party-boat cruise. In Vancouver, some of the summer’s biggest annual events are Hastings Park’s stakes horse races, with colourful outfits and spectacular hats. We have a great selection of hats, fascinators, ascots, dresses and accessories for these popular events, too!

Fall and winter is the time to revive the “Sweater Girls” era, with fitted, feminine silhouettes and colours and materials like angora wool or cashmere, made more glamorous with beading, sequins, embroidery, appliques or novelty prints. Long, classic vintage skirts help complete the ensemble.

Vintage comes into its own with fancy dresses for cocktail parties. This could be the ever-popular 1950s swing dresses or the Paper Doll look with petticoats and poodle skirts, or flapper dresses from the 1920s, made of such gorgeous materials such as silk or taffeta, embellished with velvet, beading, crystal or ribbon adornments. Accessories include delicate dress gloves, brooches or art deco cocktail rings. Don’t forget to add a touch of romance by wearing a Lace Embrace corset, stockings and garters underneath your outfit. As we all know, the night doesn’t end when the party does.

Vintage Lingerie

We love the exquisite undergarments of years past, and offer, depending upon the season, delicate lace slips, panties, negligees, bed jackets, Victorian bloomers, nightgowns, bras and bustiers, shapewear, chemises and peignoir sets, vintage stockings made of rayon, cotton or silk, poet camisoles, shortaloons, camaloons, knickers, drawers and briefs. All are made of high-quality cotton, rayon, nylon or silk. These garments are not only fun to wear but a wonderful way to connect with our mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers, who wore these lovely underthings on a daily basis. We also offer high quality April Cornell vintage inspired undergarments.

The Thrill of Wearing a Piece of History

Wearing vintage clothing is akin to time travelling to some of the most romantic eras in modern history. Who wouldn’t want to dress like Ingrid Bergman’s character Ilsa Lund in Casablanca, like Rose DeWitt in Titanic, or like Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes?

Lace Embrace offers a selection of retro pin up dress collections from a variety of manufacturers as well as a selection of timeless April Cornell cotton dresses that make wonderful statement pieces.

Antique & Vintage Reproduction Dresses & Gowns

Did you know that we originally started Lace Embrace Atelier creating made to measure bridal and special occasion gowns? We were so busy making wedding gowns, bridal veils, mother of the bride outfits, bridesmaids dresses, flower girl dresses, prom and historical costumes like bustle gowns, bodices, underpinnings, bustles, hoops, crinolines, panniers and of course corsets! When our clients had difficulty finding proper foundation garments to wear for their fittings, we introduced corsetry as an extra service and the rest is history!

We still create bespoke garments in our own atelier, should you want something unique that is specially made to measure. Contact us to enquire about having something special made for your upcoming graduation, prom, wedding, mother of the bride, birthday or just to pamper yourself with something tailor made and uniquely you.
